Counselling and Support Services


Life is hard; we’re here to help. Our Counselling and Support Services aim to help increase your life satisfaction by teaching you tools to manage your life better. Counselling services are provided for individuals over 16 years of age, couple counselling and family counselling is also available. Issues addressed include: worry, sadness, life stress, experiencing life transitions, sleep difficulties, grief, feeling stuck and more.


We know that most people find it hard to attend groups. It’s such a relief to find out you are not the only one struggling. Groups are offered throughout the year. Average group size is 5-15 people. These groups are:

  • After; Suicide
  • Hold Me Tight: Conversations for Connection
  • Heart Buddies

Weekly Meditation Group

Mastering Mood (CBT)

Feeling sadness, worry, anger, or guilt? Learn about the relationships between your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Start setting small attainable goals to help you feel better. Work on challenging your reactions to situations and negative thinking. Turn down the volume of your negative emotions. Open to the public. Group meets for 2 hours per week 7 weeks.  After; Group

A Support Group for anyone who has been affected by death from suicide. Participants will need a brief interview to assess readiness, and to insure that participants have the support they need outside the group, crucial for anyone not belonging to our Family Health Team. Hold Me Tight: Conversation for Connection

A small group therapy approach to couples counselling based on the theory and practice of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). The first session is about the attachment science behind partner love.  The following seven sessions help couples to use the seven conversations laid out in the book Hold Me Tight by Dr. Sue Johnson.  The ultimate goal of the program is to help reduce distance and conflict while creating a more loving, secure bond.  This group is appropriate for couples age 18+ LGBTQ+ welcome.  Call Thamesview Family Health Team at 519-354-0070 for more information.

Prerequisites:  Both partners need to complete an individual, 30 minute phone intake with registered social worker.

Purchase the book Hold Me Tight by Dr. Sue Johnson prior to the start of the group.

Heart Buddies

A monthly get together.  A chance to talk and share your experience of heart surgery, matters of the heart.  Surgeries pre/post.  What to expect, what was your experience, what’s normal, how we change, how this impacts our families and friends, how to live well.  Call Thamesview Family Health Team at 519-354-0070 for more information.
